[to stop, pause and reflect]

Falmouth Vineyard’s Discipleship Programme

God is our refuge and strength

an ever-present help in times of trouble

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth gives way

and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

Though its waters roar and foam

and the mountains quake with their surging

Selah

Selah is our discipleship programme which will be back in September 2024! If you want to pursue Jesus, invest in the local church down in Cornwall, and think the year could be for you, have a read of the information below to get a more of a feel for what it’ll look like.

When does the year start?

Our next Selah Year will start at the beginning of September 2024, running through to Friday 4th July 2025. Our first meet up will be on Friday 6th September 2024. Please pencil in the whole weekend though (6th, 7th and 8th), as we'll be spending time together over the weekend exploring the area, hanging out and getting to know each other better.

What do we love about living in Cornwall?

Cornwall is one of the beauty hotspots in the UK. We have stunning beaches, and many picturesque fishing towns and incredible landscapes to explore. Cornwall is also a creative hub for filmmakers, artists, writers, potters, and makers, and within our church, we encourage creativity wherever we can. Falmouth has two thriving Universities which offer many interesting courses from Marine & Natural History Photography, to Fashion Marketing!

Why should I consider joining Selah?

Selah is a word that is used throughout the Psalms, and many theologians agree that it is a moment to pause and reflect, to take a deep breath, to be still and know that He is God. Our heart for this year is to dedicate ourselves to God, creating plenty of opportunities to stop and listen to all that He has for us. We will spend each Friday gathering as a community to worship in creative ways, aiming to grow as apprentices of Jesus whilst serving and being rooted in the local Vineyard Church here in Falmouth, Cornwall. If you’re seeking God for what might be next in your life, feel at a crossroads, or simply want to take a year to do something different, we’d love to hear from you and would encourage you to apply!

Who should apply?

Selah is open to anyone aged 21 and above. Those considering applying need to be mature in their faith and sensitive to the Holy Spirit. We are also looking for characteristics such as humility, teachability, and those who are open handed with how the Lord might want to use them during the year. Applicants also need to be willing to share the values of Falmouth Vineyard church.

A link to the application form can be found here

How does the application process work?

Once we've received your application, we'll then invite you to an informal interview. We are happy for this to take place online or in person. Following prayer and a process of discernment, we'll make a decision on whether to invite you to become part of the year.

What are the time commitments?

You will need to be available each Friday in term time, from 9.30am-4pm. You will also have serving responsibilities on Sundays, and at other events during the week. There is also likely to be a few weekends away such as a visit to another Vineyard church and national conferences such as the Vineyard Leaders’ Gathering and the Vineyard Worship Gathering.

How much does it cost?

There is no charge for the year, however we would expect you to get a job for 4 days a week to cover your living and accommodation costs. We would also recommend keeping some money aside (approximately £250) to cover any days out that we might go on during the year. For example, one of our trips will be to the Tate Gallery in St.Ives.

Do I need my own transport?

No, you don't need transport to take part in the year. The church office in Penryn is a walkable distance from Falmouth, or a short bus ride away. If you do have a car though and would like to bring it, that would be helpful.

Is accommodation provided?

Unfortunately not, however we will help you where we can and pray with you as you search for somewhere to live. Accommodation in Cornwall is hard to find, however we have seen God provide in the past in this area, and we know He is able to do it again!

Tell me about Falmouth Vineyard

We are a growing church, led by our lead Pastors, Nathan and Ruth Gilbert. We’re affiliated to Vineyard Churches UK & Ireland, and the church was planted in 2018 out of Vineyard Church Cardiff, with just a handful of people at the first meetings. God is doing some amazing things in Cornwall and our heart is to see the county coming alive through the hope and freedom that Jesus brings. We are proud to be a multi-generational church, welcoming people from all backgrounds.

Tell me more about the Vineyard Movement

Falmouth Vineyard is proud to be part of the Vineyard family of churches. There are approximately 120 Vineyard congregations nationally and 2,500 in 95 countries worldwide. You can find out more about the Vineyard Movement here.
